This is what I found on tv,com about this episode, also known as 'The Forms of Things Unknown' - I think this is what is being talked about? This is the last episode on the last disc 4 of the original Season 1 DVD Boxset. TV.com details the changes at http://www.tv.com/the-outer-limits-1963/the-forms-of-things-unknown/episode/21561/summary.html

"This episode was actually produced by Joseph Stefano as a pilot for a possible television series to be known as The Unknown. This series would have been an anthology show which focused on gothic horror. Two slightly different versions of this episode exist. This first is this episode. The other is the pilot to The Unknown.

In the alternate version, we discover that Andre had never died to begin with: the poisonous Thanatos tree does not in fact exist, but had been created by him as a laugh. Thus he was not brought back by the 'time-tilting' machine, but had been faking his death all along. He still dies at the end the same way, but Kassia takes his gun. The character of Tone Hobart is then shot by Kassia when she mistakes him for attacking Leonora. He dies in front of his 'time-tilter' machine: it turns out he was really just a madman all along, though he still gets what he longs for in the end: a return to the past of his "death" (which, in this version, had been a coma, not death).

These changes were made to accommodate the fact that the proposed show The Unknown was not to contain any science fiction elements. ABC ended up rejecting the pilot, and an opening titles sequence designed by Wayne Fitzgerald along with an opening theme written by Dominic Frontiere for The Unknown would later be used by ABC for the science fiction series The Invaders"

Now the alternate versions/edits of episodes like this would have been a GREAT addition to the DVD Boxsets! No? ;-)

(Hint Hint for a Bluray Boxset Re-Release someday? I can dream no?)

UGH! I'll never buy into the Blu-ray meme. I'm tired of the electronics industry dragging me along by the nose and me following like a sheeple. At my age, I need to get off my duff anyway, so when my last standard DVD player dies, I'll quit and sell off my DVD collection. No HD or BD for me.

Besides, I can always come here and watch stuff (assuming IA survives the constant technological changes), since most of my favorite movies and TV shows are online already.

I purchased an external hard drive (1TB, and half filled already... cost about $100) and bought a S-Video cable which cost me about $20, and basically set up my computer to use the TV as a dual computer screen, open Windows Media, drag it to the dual monitor and watch my IA downloaded stuff like that. Works great with DVDs as well, since my laptop plays DVDs. This works great because I can also watch IA from the web site.

With all the stuff on IA, and all our DVDs, we're seriously thinking about dumping cable.

I hear ya. The only cable we have is for the internet.
